John Zillman

John Zillman joined the Bureau of Meteorology as a Cadet Meteorologist in 1957 and retired in 2005 after 48 years in Bureau operations, research and management including 25 years (1978-2003) as Commonwealth Director of Meteorology.

As Permanent Representative of Australia with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), he played a leading role in international meteorology, including eight years (1995-2003) as President of WMO.

He continued his active involvement in meteorology as an Emeritus officer of the Bureau (2005-18) with a special interest in meteorological history and international cooperation
